Minecraft 13w37e and PE beta tester!

Two days ago and yesterday Mojang released a new snapshot 13w37e (E?) and a new program on Android for beta. First off I want to start with the snapshot. This snapshot is really different because Mojang has added Twitch.tv support for one click streaming!  To start you must add your Twitch account to your Mojang account. Just go here and go to Account Settings to add your Twitch account. Then go to Options -> Broadcast Options, or just go ahead and start broadcasting at any time by hitting F6. This key can be configured in the Controls options. Mojang also adds 'Currently this is only supported on Windows (Vista and higher) and Mac OS X Mountain Lion (10.8) and higher. If you cannot start broadcasting ingame, go to the options screen and it will tell you why.'. Have fun uploading Minecraft videos! So, on the the Minecraft PE beta! This applies to anyone who has a Android device that owns Minecraft PE from the Google Play Store. Mojang says you can go here apply for the program. They also wrights that they may need to limit the beta at some point. So sign up fast! Enjoy!

What we know about Xbox One!

Since the Xbox One launch event, people have been wanting to know more about it. Microsoft/Xbox haven't said to much but we do know a few key features. The biggest things gamers have wanted to know is how Xbox One will handle Pre-Owned games, and how the Xbox One connects to the internet.

Below are the key things we know about the Xbox One. We hopefully will know the rest after the Xbox One E3 event on Monday. What is below is by reliable sources an quotes but MOST of it is said by Microsoft.

  • Does the Xbox One require online connection?

Yes, Xbox One will need to connect every 24 hours to play games on you main console. If you are using a different console you will need to connect every hour. Some games and services may need permanent online connection if the developer says so. If you are at a place with no internet such as a Military Base, you will not be able you use the Xbox One. Blu-Rays and DVDs are exempt from this restriction.

The reason the Xbox One will need a internet connection is for the Xbox to check make sure it is the owner playing the game and access the cloud. As a result, you can play all your games from any Xbox One console

  • What kind of internet connection do I need?

Microsoft recommends a broadband connection of at least 1.5Mbps.

  • Can I play my games on my friend's Xbox One?

Yes, as long as you're sign into yourself. Otherwise your friend will need to buy the game at full price. Even if you bring your disk with, you cannot play the game on their account.

The clearest stance on this comes from Eurogamer's interview with Harrison:
"I can come to your house and I can put the disc into your machine and I can sign in as me and we can play the game. The bits are on your hard drive. At the end of the play session, when I take my disc home - or even if I leave it with you - if you want to continue to play that game [on your profile] then you have to pay for it. The bits are already on your hard drive, so it's just a question of going to our [online] store and buying the game, and then it's instantly available to play. The bits that are on the disc, I can give to anybody else, but if we both want to play it at the same time, we both have to own it. That's no different to how discs operate today."
Microsoft's Major Nelson (Larry Hyrb) put it this way:
"Should you choose to play your game at your friend’s house, there is no fee to play that game while you are signed in to your profile."
But then if you go home and leave the disc with your friend, they will have to pay for that game if they want to play it on their own profile.

  •  Can my friends and family play my games on my Xbox?

Yes, but only if a game is installed on a console, anybody who uses that console can play it through that console's parental controls. "Your friends and family, your guests and acquaintances get unlimited access to all of your games  Anyone can play your games on your console, regardless of whether you are logged in or their relationship to you," says the official information.

  • Can I play pre-owned games?

Yes, but this one kind of sketchy. The license system says you can, but the person who buys the game cannot since each game can only change positions once.

"Microsoft Studios will enable you to give your games to friends or trade in your Xbox One games at participating retailers. Third party publishers may opt in or out of supporting game resale and may set up business terms or transfer fees with retailers,"
Xbox.com says.

Read IGN's wiki for some more details.

  • How large is the hard drive?

500GB, but you can't use it all says Microsoft. The small print says:
"Xbox One system software uses a significant amount of storage; less internal storage will be available to users."

  • Do we always need to use the Kinect?

Sort of, you can 'Pause' it if the game or service does not require it, but
"The all new Kinect is now an essential and integrated part of the platform.  By having it as a consistent part of every Xbox One, game and entertainment creators can build experiences that assume the availability of voice, gesture and natural sensing, leading to unrivaled ease of use, premium experiences and interactivity for you,"
says Microsoft's Xbox One FAQ. You canot turn off Kinect's microphone, says hardware program manager John Link (via Polygon). It's always listening. But in its idle state, it's evidently only listening for the phrase "Xbox On", rather than passively absorbing your conversations.

  • Does the Kinect automatically upload information to Microsoft?

No.
"You can play games or enjoy applications that use data, such as videos, photos, facial expressions, heart rate and more, but this data will not leave your Xbox One without your explicit permission,"
says Microsoft.

  • Where will that live TV stuff be at launch?

U.S.A., but with a gradual global rollout planned.

  • Is it backwards compatible in any way?

No, games from the Xbox 360 will not work on the Xbox One.

  • Will my Xbox Live Gold account transfer?

Yes, says the Xbox One FAQ:
"You do not need to buy a new Xbox Live Gold membership. Your current membership will work on both Xbox 360 and Xbox One."
  • What about my gamer score?

Yes, that's also going to be coming with you as well - along with your Avatar.
"All of the gaming identity that you have on Xbox 360 will be there on Xbox One as well,"
said Harvey Eagle.

  • Will I need to pay for Xbox Live Gold?

Yes, the head of Xbox in Europe told The Metro: "Yes, we still see that as a chargeable service... I think that people understand that for a premium service that gives access to so many different rich parts of entertainment. Our consumers are happy and I think we represent great value there actually. If you look at the plethora of things available now through Xbox Live, particularly the Gold service and what we put behind Gold, we’ve got no plans to change that."

Minecraft 13w19a and Elmo?!?!

Hello everybody! Sorry I'm late, but Mojang released a new snapshot on the 10th (Friday) so I didn't see it until Sunday when I happened upon it on Twitter. It adds mainly Dyed Clay. It is the Hardened Clay dyed in all the colors of Wool. The crafting recipe is here:

X O X

X = Hardened Clay
O = Dye (Any color)

Once made it yields 8 (Eight) Hardened Clay dyed the color of the dye you paced in the center. Other then that it was Donkey/Mule with a Chest to store your items. I also wanted to show you all the picture that Mojang posted with the snapshot here:

If you look above the Red Clay/Wool you will see what looks like Elmo! What is that? Be sure to let me know what you think it is in the comments! Is it a Lady Bug? Elmo? What do you think? So I will show you a close-up image here:

    Minecraft 13w16a and new launcher!

It is here! The new launcher and 13w16a it is one of the biggest updates in along time! This update includes the new Minecraft launcher (0.1) that lets you choose your version. The only version on the new launcher is the new 13w16a. Also this launcher is very very buggy and may not work for you, but it did for me.

    New Minecraft launcher

The second main thing is the new Horses (Yes you did read that right!)! The only way to get them are too spawn them with a Spawn Egg. There are a bunch of different textures and fouls and donkeys (Mules). The Donkey has a chest on its back, possible to have it hold your items? There are also Undead and Skeleton Horses, but are only the texture files not actually in the game.

Carpet, Hay, Leaches, Horse Saddles and Horse Armor are also new. Here is the full change log:

  • Added horses, based on the work of John Olarte (DrZhark), of Mo’ Creatures fame
  • Added horse armor (iron, gold, diamond)
    • Crafted with six iron/gold/diamond, and a wool block

  • Added horse saddle
    • Crafted with five leather and three iron ingots

  • Added hay bales
  • Added leashes
  • Added carpets
    • Carpets are made using 2 of your desired colors of wool in a horizontal line

  • The “Respiration” enchantment now also helps seeing underwater
  • You can now rash blocks/items in a same block/item ID, but has to be an other value, in creative
  • Hidden Donkey textures found, in Horse texture file

  • And click HERE (Will open in new tab) to go to the Mojang post and download.

    Minecraft 13w09c!

Today Jens tweeted that 1.5 pre-release most likely will be out next week. My guess is Thursday. He also posted 13w09c (Doesn't seem like there's that many C snapshots). 13w09c has two things and a TON of bug fixes. Here they are:

      PlayStation4 reviled!

So, as some of you know the PS4 has been reviled at the Sony event in New York last night, and most (if you don't why are you reading this?) of you don't know what is new in the PS4! Not a lot is known but some of the main things are.

The first is the controller is the new DualShock4 is cool with the same basic look of the DualShock3 and has a improved rumble, a small touchpad that is like the one on the back of the Vita, on the top of the remote between the directional pad and the Triangle, Circle, Cross, and Square buttons, there is a light bar that can display different colors, used to indicate which player is which and to indicate critical messages such as low health. This is used to communicate with a dual camera attachment; the external camera attachment perceives movement and depth by using the controller's light bar, and the DualShock4 features the following buttons: PS button, SHARE button, OPTIONS button, d-pad, action buttons (triangle, circle, cross, square), shoulder buttons (R1/L1), triggers (R2/L2), analog stick click buttons (L3/R3) and a touch pad click button. These mark several changes from the DualShock3 and other previous PlayStation controllers. The START and SELECT buttons have been merged into a single OPTIONS button. A dedicated SHARE button will allow players to upload video from their gameplay experiences. The joysticks and triggers have been redesigned based on developer input. The joysticks will now feature a concave surface, similar to that of the Xbox 360 controller.

Also the PlayStation 4 will feature a custom-designed single-chip processor, with an 8-core 64-bit x86 central processing unit (CPU) developed by AMD. It is code-named "Jaguar". This architecture marks a change from the "powerful but difficult to develop for" Cell processor found in the PlayStation 3. The graphics processing unit (GPU) will be based on next-generation AMD Radeon graphics. It will perform at 1.84 TFLOP/s. It is likely to perform better than a mid-range graphics card in a gaming computer. It will also include dedicated graphics technology for seamless compression and decompression of video media. The PlayStation 4 will include 8 GB of GDDR5 system memory, allowing for 176 GB/s of bandwidth. Memory will be unified, meaning that the console lacks dedicated video RAM; all RAM is shared between processing and graphics capabilities. This feature has been found in past consoles such as the Xbox 360. The read-only optical drive will read Blu-ray discs at 6x and DVDs at 8x. A hard disk drive will be included, although Sony has not yet announced the size. The PlayStation 4 will feature 802.11 b/g/n network connectivity as well as Ethernet. USB 3.0 will be included, as will Bluetooth 2.1. An auxiliary port will also be included. The system will come bundled with a mono headset, which can be plugged into the DualShock4. Output options will be HDMI, analog AV-out, and optical S/PDIF audio out. The console will support output of 4K resolution video but games cannot be rendered in that resolution.

The thing Sony did not show was the PS4 itself! So I guess we might need to wait for E3 for that.

Will you rush out and buy one when it comes out in the 4th quarter of 2013? Do you think the next Xbox will be better? Let me know!

      Ipad 4 with 128gb

This fall Apple has said that a new model of the Ipad 4 will come out, with 128gb. This is the most storage in any Ipad yet.

      That's the equivalent of about 100 DVD-quality movies, 30 Blu-ray movies, 30,000 songs or 40,000 photos.

That will also put you back $799 (Wi-Fi only) and $929 (Wi-Fi and cellular), $100 more than the current 64GB model. Is it worth the extra $100? Let me know what you think!

Atari US files for Ch. 11

You all know Atari and what they've made. But did you know they just filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy? Well, they did.

Atari says that, the move is necessary to secure investments it needs to grow in mobile and downloadable video games.

Atari U.S. has moved over to sell downloadable games and mobile games.

CEO Jim Wilson said the moves were the "best decision to protect the company and its shareholders." The auction process in U.S. bankruptcy proceedings will "maximize the proceeds" going to shareholders, he added.

Creditors include accounting firm Deloitte & Touche, and retail stores Kmart and Wal-Mart Stores, although none are owed more than $250,000. Blue Bay is not listed as one of the U.S. operations' creditors.

Atari, which turned 40 last year, was a videogame pioneer with games like "Pong" and "Centipede," but has changed ownership several times amid financial problems. In its filing with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in the Southern District of New York, Atari said it had $1 million to $10 million in assets and $10 million to $50 million in debt. It is seeking approval for $5.25 million in debtor-in-possession financing from investment firm Tenor Capital Management.

Atari said it expects to sell its assets or confirm a restructuring plan within the next three to six months.
